note to freelancers

this note is for all the freelancers, individuals or agencies who approach me offering services like thumbnails, video editing, script writing, or anything related to content and product.

please read this and only then proceed with the conversation.

it'll save a lot of your time and mine.

ideation and script writing

please don't offer me any services related to these. i keep these two things to myself, and i never want to automate or delegate them.

thumbnails

  1. thumbnail design: many freelancers start with "your thumbnails suck", and when i ask them to surprise me, they create a thumbnail that i don't even want to live after seeing it. if you're a good thumbnail designer, then you know that adding fancy elements, lights and faces don't make a great thumbnail. a great thumbnail is 90% psychology and 10% graphic.
  2. if you don't understand point 1, please don't dm or email me.
  3. if you do understand, then don't ask for my permission. pick any thumbnail from a latest video, make changes and send it to me directly.
  4. don't write a big ass email just to ask if i'm interested. simply send your work. i respect everyone's effort and check every single email (even the ones in spam and promotions).
  5. when you send it, i'll check; if your thumbnail satisfies my theory of thumbnails, i'll test it on my yt for a week.
  6. if your thumbnail increases the CTR, i'll sign a contract with you, even for the long term if your work is solid.
  7. if your thumbnail doesn't increase the CTR of the video, then i'll remove it and will appreciate your efforts.
  8. don't worry, i won't steal your work. if i end up using your trial thumbnail but you don't get a deal, i'll pay for your trial thumbnail.

video editing

  • best editing is no editing. watch this video to get it clear.
  • the way i edit my videos these days isn't because i lack skills or i can't use a video editor, but it's more like a design choice.
  • video editing should be minimal, simple and easy to watch for the viewer.
  • the job of editing is to enhance the story of the content, not to be the most visible element of the content itself.
  • to send your work, get a 30 sec clip of the best moment of this video, edit it and send it to me. if i like the editing, you get the deal.

some other useful tips

  • don't ask for permission. just send the work. (specific questions whose answers aren't given above are welcome)
  • if i say no, please don't follow up. i hate follow-ups. if i like even a slight part of your work, i'll keep you in a list and will ping you when i feel the need.
  • please keep your email short. my interest in your work has nothing to do with your college, your background or the top 5 worst habits of your ex.
  • cut any BS text. get to the point from the first line. keep it 3-4 short lines only.
  • i always love and appreciate creative and genuine work. and this kind of work always sells itself. you don't need the tricks.
  • i myself am an independent creator and i know how much time, effort and uncertainty it takes to get customers/clients. that's why i'm writing this to avoid wasting time and effort for you and for me.
